I kind of always pictured Maedhros wearing rather dark clothes - he doesn't seem like the brightly colourful type. Especially since his hair would be catchy enough. XD

No, I think that was Maedhros being generally depressing later on. On the other hand, darker colours might make jewels stand out more... XDD
